Autonomous electricity production
Due to the recent energy crisis and climate change, we decided in 2022 to launch an ambitious and innovative challenge in Wallonia, supported by CWAPE and the Tweed Cluster:produce 80% of the estimated energy requirements for the occupants of the Foster project including artisans, offices, charging stations, etc.
“The sustainability is one of the pillars of Foster’s DNA.”, Louis du Bois, Foster’s founder.
No less than 120,000 KW/H per year will be produced on the site, saving 35 tonnes of CO2 per year! Another step towards decarbonizing Wallonia.
Therefore, we will install:
- No less than 600m2 of panels,
- A 24m wind turbine,
- A system of smart batteries that will start up these different installations according to the peaks and needs of our occupants.
We make sure to adapt the use of the different installations according to the needs of biodiversity.
For example, respecting the migration periods of bats, the wind turbines will shut down at certain times of the night.
Water supply from the Lasne river and from the sky
The target of autonomy does not stop there because Terfosse has the chance to be located within the perimeter of the basin of Lasne river.
Since 2021, we put a well with a secured perimeter to provide the entire site with drinking water respecting the availability of the water table.
Alongside this well, water management being one of the other fundamental issues of the Foster ecosystem, we have installed a rainwater recovery system that will directly supply Foster’s vegetable garden.
Zero waste and composting
The zero-waste policy applies to every sector within Foster (production, restaurant, and office).
Thanks to the restaurant and other conference rooms and the diversity of growing crops, Foster will be able to have a rich compost area.
The benefits of composting in agriculture are:
- Improved soil structure
- Better water retention
- Development of soil microorganisms
- Nutrient intake
