Agriland, a company based in Foster, supports farmers and landowners in Belgium and France. Their mission: to enhance agricultural heritage by promoting sustainable, profitable, and peaceful farming practices.
Based in Foster since the beginning of the project, the Agriland team cultivates our land with the same philosophy.
Diverse crops for living soils
On two plots of 5 to 7 hectares, the team harvested spring oats and triticale this year. After the harvest, the soils were covered with a green manure, a mixture of:
- mustard
- phacelia
- sunflower
- clover
- legumes
These latter ones naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen and organic matter, thus limiting the use of chemical fertilizers.
Some of the sowing was even carried out by drone, to reduce the passage of heavy machinery and avoid soil compaction.
An innovative technique that fully aligns with Agriland's objective:
work with nature to create more resilient ecosystems and reduce agricultural interventions.
Flowering strips: refuge and ecological corridors
Around the plots, flower strips have been sown: a refuge for ladybirds, bees, butterflies, and local wildlife.
These areas are not just aesthetic: they act as ecological corridors, supporting biodiversity throughout the season, enhancing crop resilience, and promoting natural balance.
Organic and conventional: two complementary approaches
At Foster, two agricultural methods coexist voluntarily:
- A plot in organic farming
- A plot in reasoned conventional agriculture
The aim is simple: to compare their effects on
✔️ the yield
✔️ soil health
✔️ economic viability
Towards regenerative and innovative agriculture
Agriland is committed, alongside Foster, to a vision where agricultural production, biodiversity, and respect for life evolve together.
These experiments provide a unique learning ground to envision the agricultural models of tomorrow.
A big thank you to the Agriland team for their daily work and to all those who contribute to making Foster a vibrant, fertile, and inspiring place.
